Curriculum Vitae

Borislav D Dimitrov was born in 1966 in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria.

He graduated at the Faculty of Medicine of the Thracian University in Stara Zagora in 1991 as M.D. and was awarded an advanced degree (M.Sc.) from the Faculty of Science and Engineering of The Victoria University of Manchester (England) in 1994. He was certified by the State board in 1998 as specialist in social medicine & health management (S.M.H.M.) after having completed his postgraduate training at the Medical University of Plovdiv (Bulgaria). In 1999, Dr Dimitrov sucessfully completed a 3-year full-time doctoral training in social medicine & health management (with emphasis on epidemiology and medical statistics) at the Department of Social Medicine and Health Management (Medical University of Plovdiv) with the thesis `Assessment of the dynamics in the spread of some malignant neoplasms in Bulgaria: nonlinear prognostic models` and the degree was awarded in 2006 (D.M./Ph.D.). In 1990, and during the following years, he was awarded and held the position of assistant professor in social medicine (public health, epidemiology, health management, medical statistics & medical informatics) as well as of registrar/specialist (Department of Patient Information, Computing & Network Support Services, Medical University Hospital - Plovdiv). He worked in various university, private and public clinical and administration settings as physician, lecturer, tutor, expert and consultant. He is fluent in Bulgarian (native), Russian, French, English and Italian languages.

In 2000 he joined the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research (Milano, Italy) as a visiting scientist and has been working as a senior scientist and consultant of clinical epidemiology and applied statistics at the Clinical Research Centre for Rare Diseases `Aldo e Cele Dacco` of the Institute in Ranica (BG). Currently, he lives in Alzano Lombardo, Bergamo, Italy.
